The Management and Staff of Societe Generale Ghana, together supported the Ghana Heart Foundation with a donation of GHS33,000.00 to help the Foundation with its health care delivery.
Welcoming the Media, representatives of the Ghana Heart Foundation, Management and Staff of the bank at the ceremony on Wednesday 28th July 2015, the Company Secretary of the Bank, Ms. Angela Nanansaa Bonsu reiterated the Bank’s long standing relationship with the Foundation.
She stated that Societe Generale Ghana has been supporting the Foundation for the past 12 years as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. She said that the total donation of GHS33,000.00 was made up contributions from Staff to the tune of GHS16,500 and this was matched up evenly by the Management of the Bank with GHS16,500.00.
Dr. Lawrence Siriboe, the Director of the national Cardiothoracic Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the lead representative for the Ghana Heart Foundation at the ceremony, thanked the Bank for their commitment to the development of the Foundation over the years.
Dr. Siriboe stated that the Ghana Heart Foundation of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is a charity organization dedicated to saving lives and improving health care by informing the public on heart and circulatory related diseases. He said the Foundation assisted people with cardiovascular disease by providing for cardiovascular research and training for health workers involved in cardiovascular care.
Dr. Siriboe then educated all the Staff and Management members of the Bank and the Media with a short presentation on some of the causes of heart and circulatory related diseases, their effects, prevention and tips on living a healthy lifestyle. He encouraged other institutions and organisation to take after Societe Generale Ghana actions and lend them their support.
Over the years the Ghana Heart Foundation has been very successful to the extent that every Ghanaian patient undergoing heart surgery receives 50% subsidy from the Trust Fund.
Addressing the ceremony, the outgoing Managing Director of the Bank, Mr. Gilbert Hie thanked the Ghana Heart Foundation for their instructive presentation and affirmed Managements’ commitment towards the continued health and well-being of Staff.
Mr. Hie said that it was Societe Generale (SG) Group’s global CSR policy in all its subsidiaries, including Ghana, to uphold its social and environmental commitments to make sustainable progress in accordance with these four (4) strategic priorities; undertaking responsible financing, rolling out a responsible solidarity-based banking offer; strengthening
SG’s roles as a responsible employer and towards its suppliers; and reinforcing its role as a responsible actor at the heart of today’s society. He said that today’s presentation shows SG Ghana’s continued and exemplary support of the Foundation and evidence of its commitment to these principles.
Mr. Alfred K.K. Twum Barimah, Chairman of the Societe Generale Ghana Professional and Managerial Staff Union (“PMSU”) of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (“ICU”) speaking at the ceremony stated that Staff of the Bank were privileged to be associated with the Ghana Heart Foundation. He echoed staff appreciation for the Foundation’s presentation in fulfillment of its promise.
Mr. Twum Barimah outlined the history of the Bank’s partnership with the Foundation and stated that he is pleased that Staff answered the call from the Foundation several years ago. He said that the Staff of the Bank would continue supporting the activities of the Foundation and also called on other institutions and organizations to join in the fight and follow the shining example of Societe Generale Ghana.
Societe Generale Ghana believes in Team Work and a remarkable demonstration of this is the effort made by the Staff and Management of the Bank in contributing together. At Societe Generale Ghana, Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) is interpreted as To Care; To Share; and To Respect.
This mean CSR is a day to day duty present in all our activities both internally and externally.
